anfractuous (adj.) "full of windings and turnings," 1620s, from L. anfractuous, from anfractus "a winding, a turning, bending round," from am(bi)- "around" (see AMBI- (Cf. ambi-)) + fractus, pp. of frangere "to break" (see FRACTION (Cf. fraction)). Related: Anfractuosity.
