aggressive (adj.) 1791, from L. aggress-, pp. stem of aggredi (see AGGRESSION (Cf. aggression)) + -IVE (Cf. -ive). In psychological use from 1913, first in translations of Freud. Related: Aggressively; aggressiveness.
