aerobatics (n.) aircraft tricks, "trick flying," 1914, from AERO- (Cf. aero-) + ending from ACROBAT (Cf. acrobat) (also see -ICS (Cf. -ics)). Earlier (1879) it meant "the art of constructing and using airships; aerial navigation; aeronautics."
