Wenceslas masc. proper name, from M.L. Venceslaus (modern Czech Vaclav), from O.Czech Veceslavu, lit. "having greater glory," from Slavic *vetye- "greater" + *-slavu "fame, glory," from PIE *klou-, from root *kle- "to hear" (see LISTEN (Cf. listen)).
