wheatear
wheatear type of bird, 1590s, back-formation from white-ears, lit. "white-arse" (see WHITE (Cf. white) + ARSE (Cf. arse)). So called for its color markings; Cf. French name for the bird, cul-blanc, lit. "white rump."
