resilience (n.) 1620s, from L. resiliens, prp. of resilire "to rebound, recoil," from re- "back" (see RE- (Cf. re-)) + salire "to jump, leap" (see SALIENT (Cf. salient)). Cf. RESULT (Cf. result).
