pyrotechnic "of or pertaining to fireworks," 1825, from PYRO- (Cf. pyro-) (q.v.) + Gk. tekhnikos "made by art," from tekhne "art" (see TECHNO- (Cf. techno-)). Fig. use attested from 1847.
