purblind c.1300, pur blind "entirely blind," later "partially blind, blind in one eye" (late 14c.), probably from Anglo-Fr. perfective prefix pur- (from V.L. por-, variation of L. pro- "before, for") + BLIND (Cf. blind) (q.v.). Sense of "dull" first recorded 1530s.
