omnipotent

omnipotent
omnipotent (adj.) early 14c., from O.Fr. omnipotent (11c.), from L. omnipotentem (nom. omnipotens) "all-powerful, almighty," from omnis "all" (see OMNI (Cf. omni)-) + potens (gen. potentis) "powerful" (see POTENT (Cf. potent)). Strictly only of God or a deity; general sense of "having absolute power or authority" is attested from 1590s.
