odoriferous (adj.) early 15c., "that has a scent," with -OUS (Cf. -ous) + L. odorifer "odoriferous, fragrant," lit. "bearing odor," from odor (see ODOR (Cf. odor)) + ferre "to bear, carry" (see INFER (Cf. infer)). Usually in a positive sense.
