kibbutz
kibbutz (n.) "Israeli collective settlement," 1931, from Modern Heb. qibbus "gathering," earlier "a gathering together," verbal noun from root of qibbetz "he gathered together." Plural is kibbutzim. Related to Arabic quabada "he grasped seized."
