jackanapes

jackanapes
jackanapes mid-15c., "a monkey," also "an impertinent, conceited fellow;" apparently from Jack of Naples, but whether this is some specific personification or folk etymology of JACK (Cf. jack) (n.) + APE (Cf. ape) is unknown. See note in OED.
