inflorescence (n.) 1760, from Mod.L. inflorescentia, from L.L. inflorescentem (nom. inflorescens) "flowering," prp. of L. inflorescere "to come to flower," from in- "in" (see IN- (Cf. in-) (2)) + florescere "to begin to bloom" (see FLOURISH (Cf. flourish)).
