immolation (n.) early 15c., "a sacrificing" (originally especially with reference to Christ), from M.Fr. immolation (13c.) or directly from L. immolationem (nom. immolatio) "a sacrificing," noun of action from pp. stem of immolare (see IMMOLATE (Cf. immolate)).
