humility
humility early 14c., from O.Fr. umelite "humility, modesty, sweetness," from L. humilitatem (nom. humilitas) "lowness, insignificance," in Church Latin "meekness," from humilis "humble" (see HUMBLE (Cf. humble)). In the Mercian hymns, L. humilitatem is glossed by O.E. eaðmodnisse.
