heed

heed
{{11}}heed (n.) "attention, notice, regard," early 14c., apparently from HEED (Cf. heed) (v.). Survives only in literal use and as the object of verbs (take heed, etc.).
{{12}}heed (v.) O.E. hedan "to heed, observe; to take care, attend," from W.Gmc. *hodjan (Cf. OS. hodian, O.Fris. hoda, M.Du., Du. hoeden, O.H.G. huotan, Ger. hüten "to guard, watch"), from PIE *kadh- "to shelter, cover" (see HAT (Cf. hat)). Related: Heeded; heeding.
