eurypterid
eurypterid fossil swimming crustacean of the Silurian and Devonian, 1874, from eurys "broad, wide" (see ANEURYSM (Cf. aneurysm)) + pteron "feather, wing" (see PETITION (Cf. petition)); so called from their swimming appendages.
