epinephrine
epinephrine 1883, from EPI- (Cf. epi-) “upon” + Gk. nephros “kidney” (see NEPHRON (Cf. nephron)) + chemical suffix -INE (Cf. -ine) (2). So called because the adrenal glands are on the kidneys.
