dissonant
dissonant early 15c., from M.Fr. dissonant and directly from L. dissonantem (nom. dissonans), prp. of dissonare "differ in sound," from dis- "apart" (see DIS- (Cf. dis-)) + sonare "to sound" (see SOUND (Cf. sound) (n.1)).
