depredation

depredation
depredation late 15c., from M.Fr. déprédation, from L.L. depraedationem (nom. depraedatio) "a plundering," from pp. stem of L. depraedari "to pillage," from de- "thoroughly" (see DE- (Cf. de-)) + praedari "to plunder," lit. "to make prey of," from praeda "prey" (see PREY (Cf. prey)).
